Drive to spread pneumonia awareness

Drive to spread pneumonia awareness

AHMEDABAD: The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) has launched a nationwide campaign 'Blow Away Pneumonia' to mark World Pneumonia Day on Friday. The drive which is supported by medical fraternity, parents, schools and local communities across India aims to create awareness about pneumonia, which is one of the leading cause of death among children under five years of age. In spite of being a vaccine-preventable disease, pneumonia continues to kill over 4 lakh children each year.

Dr Devang Parikh, IAP president, Ahmedabad chapter, said, "Parent education meetings, doctor seminars and school rallies are being organized. A coalition of over 50 child health organizations from across world will observe November 12 as World Pneumonia Day."
