Change of season skin food

Change of season skin food

Change your diet to antioxidant-rich foods and make sure your moisturiser matches plus silk pilowcases for wrinkle free sleep and Kate Shapland's favourite independent shop.

THE BACKSTAGE SECRET change of season skin food
You don't necessarily need to be able to stand a spoon up in your face cream for it to better hydrate and fortify your skin in winter - formulas are so refined now that they can support skin just as well while remaining fairy-like on your face. Ask if you can try the two contenders below at a counter. What you eat affects your skin's condition and appearance too: antioxidant-rich food such as leafy green vegetables and chocolate - look out for Organic Pharmacy Glamour Food Chocolate (£3.49; 0844-800 8399) - oily fish, avocados, wholegrains and probiotic yogurt should all feature in your diet, as they are good skin nourishers. Temple Spa Skin Truffle has an antioxidant complex called HappyBelle-PE, with phyto-endorphins extracted from monk's pepper berries (£75; available from Harrods, 020-7730 1234). Chanel Sublimage Essential Revitalising Concentrate contains a deep purifying extract from the Himalayan golden champa flower (£290; 020-7493 3836)
THE NOVELTY Guerlain Midnight Star Collect'Or Extraordinary Radiance Treatment
More smart base-work from Guerlain, these mono-dose primers, with the texture of egg-white, smooth and lift skin while protecting it from pollutants such as cigarette smoke. Use as a primer, with or instead of moisturiser and foundation. They are so good that you will have to start rationing yourself. £39, 01932-233887.
BEST BUY Treatment Room Beauty Sleep Pillow Slip
Clever Clare Rogers, the founder of the Treatment Rooms in Brighton, is selling her own silk pillow slips to stop skin creasing and help it absorb night-time oils. 'Sleep allows skin to rest and repair so this is a simple way to enhance its restoration,' she says. The slips are being snapped up by beauty insiders as a secret sleep partner - don't hang about. £25, thetreatmentrooms.com .
THE SCENT Organic Glam Jasmine A very pure and distinctive olfactory interpretation of jasmine created with notes of bergamot, ylang ylang and sandalwood, this uplifting and pretty scent, redolent of night-time Mediterranean warmth, is 100 per cent natural and organic, which is a bonus for those who have sensitive skin. £110, theorganicpharmacy.com .
BEST SHOP Santa MAria Novella One of my favourite independent beauty shops is Santa Maria Novella (020-7460 6600) in London's Knightsbridge, one of the oldest pharmacies in the world. It was founded in 1612, and its herbal remedies (everything from face cream to pot pourri) are still made by the same family of Dominican friars. Its Santa Maria Novella lozenges contain calming essential oils; they are also helpful digestives and can prevent motion sickness.
