New-Look Amy Wows Fans With Surprise Gig

Singer Amy Winehouse has showed off her healthy new look during an impromptu performance at a charity gig.

The troubled star joked she was popping out of her jeans as she put her anorexic look behind her and cast off her trademark heavy eyeliner and massive beehive hair-do.

Winehouse, who says she has been off drugs for three years, stunned gig-goers in north London by gatecrashing a charity show.

The 27-year-old treated 150 revellers to a stripped-down acoustic set of "soulful, upbeat" new songs, receiving a wild reception at the end of the 30-minute show.

She then held up the charity box and demand people give cash to the Nordoff Robbins music therapy charity.

DJ Izzy Lawrence, 25, who runs the monthly charity night Apocalypstick at Camden's Hawley Arms, said: "She looked great - her skin looked great.

"She was trying to undo her jeans - she was joking that she could not undo the buttons. She was literally coming out of the top of her jeans."

She added: "Amy regularly comes to the charity night and hangs around.

"But this time she came up to me and said 'I know it's cheeky but do you mind if I play?'

"It's a small venue and she was happy to play because it was for charity, and I think she wanted to try out some of her new stuff."

The new Amy is in stark contrast to the old Amy, whose notorious drug-taking, partygoing ways regularly grabbed tabloid headlines.

DJ Izzy said the star restricted herself to one pint of cider before leaving at midnight.

Winehouse - still to release a follow-up to 2006 album Back To Black - said in a recent interview she was off drugs.

"I'm much healthier now. I used to use drugs and I haven't used drugs in almost three years. It's not a hard thing," she told Glamour magazine.

However, her father Mitch said in public a year ago that his daughter had been drug-free for only a year.
