Meat Loaf will be on the menu at this year's AFL grand final

Meat Loaf will be on the menu at this year's AFL grand final, after the league confirmed the rock legend would perform at the MCG on the first Saturday in October.

The AFL has often been criticised for some of its musical choices as entertainment before the season decider, however the man behind rock's Bat Out of Hell is likely to be popular with fans.

AFL commercial operations general manager Darren Birch said securing one of the music's top-selling performers was a boom for football fans.
"It is extremely important to provide members and supporters attending and watching the grand final a quality experience," Birch said.
"The positive reaction to last year's grand final performance paved the way for another international icon and I'm confident Meat Loaf will add enormously to the occasion this year."
Meat Loaf, who will time his run at the MCG as part of an Australian tour, is still best known for his 1977 album Bat Out of Hell, which has sold 43 million copies worldwide and is still Australia's highest-selling international album.
INXS performed before last year's drawn grand final between Colingwood and St Kilda, while Lionel Richie headlined the pre-game entertainment at the replay.
