Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan looks set to renew her acquaintance with Australia

Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan looks set to renew her acquaintance with Australia, adding a science-fiction thriller to the jazz-age feature she’s already slated to film here.

According to Hollywood trade paper Variety, the 26-year-old English actor is lined up to star in a film called Outback and set you know where. Apart from the fact it is billed as a sci-fi action film and that Hollywood veteran Gary Ross will direct, no other details are available.

Ross is the writer of Big, Dave, Pleasantville and Seabiscuit, and director of the last two. He is also the writer-director of the forthcoming post-apocalyptic action-thriller The Hunger Games.

Mulligan is already planning to spend several months in Australia shooting Baz Luhrmann’s 3D remake of The Great Gatsby. She plays jazz-age socialite Daisy Buchanan, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway.

Maguire is, according to Variety, one of the producers of Outback, which might point to him also having an on-screen role.
