OTTAWA — Alanis Morissette and husband Mario ‘Souleye’ Treadway are the proud parents of a baby boy.
The baby, Ever Imre Morissette-Treadway, arrived on Christmas Day, a representative for the singer told People magazine.
“All are healthy and happy.”
Morissette, 36, announced in August that she was pregnant. She married Treadway, 30, on May 22 at their Los Angeles home. The intimate ceremony was kept quiet for 16 days before it was announced publicly.
It was the first marriage for both. The pair had been dating since October 2009 and apparently met at a meditation ceremony in Morissette’s home.
In an article Morissette wrote in US Weekly about the “25 Things You Don’t Know About Me”, she announced the pregnancy as a happy surprise.
At a baby shower in October, Morissette was seen beaming and showing off her baby bump to friends.
The baby’s middle name, Imre, is also the name of Alanis’s twin brother, Wade Imre, who lives in Vancouver. He has been practising and teaching yoga for 13 years and has released a few CDs based on his teachings. Morissette’s other brother Chad lives in Ottawa.
On her Facebook page after her marriage, Morissette said, “We’re very excited to embark on this journey with each other.”
She has described the rapper Treadway, a former Whole Foods employee in Boca Raton, Florida, as her soulmate in interviews.
As for his stage name Souleye, he says it was given to him by a “spirit guide” he encountered while on a “vision quest.”
Treadway, who was born in Old Sturbridge Village, Massachusetts, launched his music career after winning a spot in the nautical music festival Jam Cruise in 2005.
Morissette has sold more than 60 million albums and has won seven Grammy Awards and 12 Junos. She is best known for her hit songs You Oughta Know and Ironic. She appeared May 19 at the première of the movie Prince of Persia, for which she wrote the song, I Remain. She wore a high-waisted dress, igniting rumours that she was pregnant. Weeks later on the finale of American Idol, she appeared in boots, leggings and a loose-fitting shirt and performed two of her biggest songs.
Morissette split from Ryan Reynolds in 2007 after dating the actor for about five years. The couple were engaged in June 2004. She also had been linked to environmental lawyer Tom Ballanco between 2007 and 2009.
Morissette revealed in a candid 2004 interview with Britain’s The Mirror that she had been sexually active since age 14, had had affairs with older men and also had lesbian relationships. She said she felt more compatible with older men.
“With older men, I could have conversations with them until five in the morning and be very stimulated intellectually and experientially.”
Her parents Georgia and Alan live in Ottawa. Georgia is a certified yoga instructor and runs programs in 23 retirement residences and eight schools in the Ottawa area. They could not be reached for comment Monday.
