Huw's got no majesty on screen

Huw's got no majesty on screen

One of the highlights of the BBC’s election coverage, as far as I was concerned, was David Dimbleby’s brilliant commentary on the dramatic evening when Gordon Brown suddenly resigned.
Dimbleby brought gravitas and eloquence to the proceedings, and kept talking even when there was really nothing to say at all other than that the plane trees were looking particularly lovely in the evening light as Brown’s car drove along the Mall.
So why has the BBC decided that Huw Edwards should cover the Royal Wedding instead? Is it because he’s Welsh and William will one day
be the Prince of Wales? Not good enough,
I’m afraid. Yes, Edwards has gravitas - but oh, how dull he is. He would make a reference to the plane trees on the Mall sound as though he is desperately filling in time.
Whereas Dimbleby always managed to make them sound as though they were absolutely integral to the drama of the occasion.
