KUCHING:R&B star ready to help orang utans

KUCHING: Malaysia’s R&B sensation Dayang Nurfaizah wants to get involved in nature and wildlife conservation work in her home state of Sarawak.

Already a conservation and wildlife ambassador under Pulau Banding Foundation and Bukit Merah Orang Utan Island Foundation, Dayang believes she could also help out in the state.

“We are discussing where and how I can help in the conservation of Sarawak’s nature and wildlife. I don’t mind doing something with relevant agencies like Sarawak Tourism Board,” she told a press conference here yesterday.

She said she was actively involved in promoting awareness on the Belum-Temengor Forest and Belum Rainforest Resort in Pulau Banding, Perak, a tropical paradise that is over 130 million years in age.
“It’s close to the border with Thailand and there are Orang Asli living in the thick jungles there. Not many know of this and I help out through events they hold like jungle trekking with schoolchildren,” she said.

Her new album, which she will feature during her showcase tomorrow night, also carries a photo of her in Pulau Banding.

She said it was a way of promoting the forest as her fans often enquired where she did her photo shoots.

Dayang has 47,000 followers on Facebook.

“I am prepared to be an ambassador for the orang utans here as the rehabilitation centres in Sarawak and Sabah are linked to Bukit Merah,” she added.

This charming songstress said she was appreciative of nature and wildlife in Sarawak and felt a strong need to raise awareness on the importance of conservation, parti-cularly among the young generation.

She said her new album Sayang @ Cahaya spoke about universal love and it includes love and passion for the environment.
